Privacy Policy

Permit Companion ("the app") is a field tool for trade contractors preparing building-permit packets. This policy explains what the app stores and how it is handled. Permit Companion is an independent tool and is not affiliated with Santa Clara County or any city building department.
Summary
- The app is offline-first. Your jobs, documents, company profile, and permit data are stored locally on your device.
- The app does not operate an account system and does not transmit your business or job data to Permit Companion servers.
- Sensitive credentials (such as your CSLB license number) are stored using the operating system's encrypted secure storage (Keychain on iOS, Keystore on Android).
What we store on your device
- Company profile: business name, contact details, CSLB license number, classifications, insurance carrier/policy details and expiry dates, and authorized-agent information.
- Jobs: site addresses, APN/TRA, scope details, permit numbers, status, and timeline events.
- Documents: files you attach for a permit packet, copied into the app's private storage. The CSLB license number is held in OS-level encrypted secure storage. Other profile and job data is held in the app's local database in its private sandbox.
What leaves your device
- Nothing by default. The app does not include advertising SDKs.
- Crash reporting: Firebase Crashlytics (and optionally Sentry when a DSN is configured) may receive anonymized crash and performance diagnostics to keep the app stable. These reports do not intentionally include CSLB numbers, insurance details, or document contents.
- Ruleset updates (optional): if a ruleset update endpoint is configured, the app downloads jurisdiction requirement files (public reference data). These requests do not include your personal or job data.
- Purchases (optional): if you subscribe to Pro, the platform's app store (and RevenueCat as the receipt validator) process the transaction under their privacy policies. The app receives entitlement status only.
- Waitlist (website): if you join the contractor waitlist on our website, your email, trade, and cities are stored in Firebase Firestore so we can contact you about pilot access.
- You-initiated actions: when you open an official permit portal or share an exported packet (e.g. via the OS share sheet or email), data goes only where you direct it. Official portals are operated by the relevant authorities under their own privacy policies.
Permissions
- Files/photos: to attach documents to a permit packet.
- Notifications: to remind you before the daily inspection-scheduling cutoff.
Data retention and deletion
Because data is stored locally, you control it. Deleting a job removes its records from the app. Uninstalling the app removes all locally stored data, including secure-storage credentials.
Children
The app is intended for professional/trade use and is not directed to children.
